Skiing NorthStar California

NorthStar water canon at work
It hasn’t snowed in several weeks but the skiing continues to improve at NorthStar. Thank goodness for low overnight temperatures and water canons. Most resorts have been able to manufacture a decent amount of coverage in small areas. Northstar’s snow making operation is huge. Early in the week they opened another lift with a top to mid-mountain run.

As of today, Friday, they opened the Backside Express Chair with a run down Burnout. I skied all of the runs today and found the mountain to be outstanding……….given the current snow situation. Obviously, you have to stay on the groomed runs. But the snow is fast and without obstacles. Sure, the runs aren’t real challenging, no cliffs, bumps, or tree skiing.  However, the terrain park off the Vista Chair is open and ready for air time. Keep your expectations low and you will have a great time. The weather has been perfect. No need to bring rock skis!

The new Zephyr Lodge is nearly complete. The furniture was brought in today. It should be open within days. The Zephyr Lodge is a replica of the Tamarac Lodge at Heavenly. I was told that both Lodges were built by the same contractor. The new lodge will help ease congestion during lunch and add another bar to the mountain.

The new name for NorthStar at Tahoe is now NorthStar California

I still haven’t seen Shaun White or his 22 foot Super Pipe.
I’m betting I’ll see the Super Pipe. As for Shaun White, I’m not so sure.
