Squaw and Alpine plan for Backcountry Link

After years of talk, speculation and dreaming, the new merger of Squaw/Alpine may finally mean a physical link between the two resorts.  Squaw/Alpine announced a pilot program to determine the possibility of a backcountry ski link.

Starting this year, the resorts will work with the US Forest Service to determine an appropriate route.  Issues include, private land, rescue routes, and wilderness areas.  Someday, backcountry gates would permit skiers to pass from one resort to the other.

Squaw and Alpine joined under one ownership this fall.  One lift ticket or pass allows use of both resorts.  Shuttles will run this winter between the two.  Wouldn't it be nice to ski between them?
