Biathlon course open in Tahoe City

A biathlon course will be open this weekend, January 14th, at the Tahoe City Cross Country ski area off Country Club Drive.  There is now snow, so this biathlon is about running or biking between shooting stations.  There are not bullets either, this is laser shooting we’re talking about.    The safe range and dry course is about testing your laser shooting skills and your conditioning.  The course will be open from 10:30am to 2:30pm.  There will be 6 biathlon stations, a penalty lap and a main lap to test your biathlon skills.  (530) 583-5475

NorthStar had a biathlon course for a number of years, but cancelled it for the 2011/2012 season.  The Auburn Ski Club (ASC) stepped in and opened a biathlon course, clinics, a team and private lessons.  The 10th Mountain Division Biathlon is scheduled for February 26th at the Auburn Ski Club Cross Country trail system on Donner Summit, adjacent to Boreal Mountain Resort.  ASC received 12 lanes and 7 rifles donated by NorthStar, plus a $25,000 pledge to get the sport of biathlon going.

The biathlon is a sport favored by Europeans.  The best nations in the biathlon are Germany, Norway, and Russia.  The biathlon is a cross country skiing event that requires a high degree of fitness with a rock steady aim for shooting accuracy.
