Freestyle skier Sarah Burke died today.

The top Canadian freestyler died today from injuries she sustained last week in Park City Mountain Resort’s superpipe.   Burke was a gold medal favorite for the 2014 Olympic Games.  She was also a contender for this year’s skiing superpipe at the X Games.  Burke suffered a serious head  injury that she never recovered from.
Burke died at the age of 29.  Her home town is Squamish, British Columbia.  A family spokeswoman issued the following statement to Reuters.  “Sarah passed away peacefully surrounded by those she loved.  In accordance with Sarah’s wishes, her organs and tissues were donated to save the lives of others.”
I will be in Park City next week.  I’ll make a slow pass through the superpipe and say a word for Sarah.

A website has been set up to assist with Sarah’s outstanding medical expenses:

The following is a recent film featuring Sarah.
