Coined as the largest winter sports trade show in the world, the SnowSports Industries America show just concluded in Denver. SIA brings together the latest trends, innovations, product lines, and styles from 1,000 winter sports brands. This is the third year for the “snow show” to visit Denver.SIA is also about snow sport statistics.
What women are buying.
Alpine equipment dominates the women’s equipment category, making up 68% of their purchases.
Total snow sports product sales for women was over $940 million for the 2011/12 season.
Snowshoeing has the highest percentage of woman participants. 46% are women.
The largest age group of women alpine skiers are between the ages of 25 and 34.
34% of women cross country skiers report household incomes of $100,000 or more.
Alpine ski trends.
Reverse and mixed camber ski sales doubled compared to pre-season sales a year ago.
Rocker/reverse camber snowboard sales continue to rise, now 70% of all boards sold.
The fatter the better. Skis with 95-110mm in the waist are up 60% this season.
Helmet sales continue to grow, up 12.5% so far this season.
Sales of beacons, probes and shovels for back country use are up 19%.
Overall snow sports equipment, up 14%.
