Tahoe Truckee snow survey just completed

The first snow survey confirmed what we already know.  What snow?  A patch of snow was measured for water content in the area of Meyers.  The results came in at a new record low, 1/7 of an inch of water.   This puts the Northern Sierra at about 21 percent of normal for this time.   The statewide water content is  19 percent  of normal.
At the end  of December  the water content reading was 24 percent of normal, contrasting with the same time the previous year when the water content was 202 percent of normal.  Today’s readings make it less likely that we can catch up to the average/normal snow levels.

January and February are usually the wettest months of the year.  The next expected chance for snow is January 11th.
