The Rahlves’ Banzai Tour makes stop number three this weekend (Mar.3-4) at Squaw Valley. This is Squaw’s first hosting of the tour and it looks like the gobs of new snow should make a fine race course indeed.
The Banzai Tour is a big mountain event that is a combination of freeskiing and skier/boarder-cross. This is head to head action, four at a time, top to bottom, first one down wins. This event is named the KT-22Banzai because it starts at the top of KT, goes into the GS Bowl, to Schimmelpfennig and ending at the bottom of Julia’s Gold.
This is a good ski race for spectators. From the top you can watch the racers leave the gates and hurtle themsleves down the mountain transforming themselves into tiny specs at the bottom. The finish line view includes a finish line annoucer, sponser booths, cold beer and the satisfaction of seeing tiny specs at the top turn into skiers making turns and crossing the finish line.
As always, there will be a Banzai apres party, hosted by High Fives Org. The party will be in The Loft Bar.
