Tahoe Truckee in for more snow

Yesterday’s snowpack survey put the state at 30 percent of normal, but we stand to gain as much as 5 feet of new snow this week.  All roads in the Tahoe basin are under chain requirements at this time, along with 50 and 80 to get up here.
Most of the school districts have called a snow day and shut down.  Tahoe Truckee Unified to the north and Lake Tahoe Unified to the south are examples of what’s closed.
The National Weather Service has a “winter storm warning for heavy snow” in effect until noon on Thursday.  Snow accumulations are expected to be 2 to 4 feet above 7,000 feet with 1 to 3 feet below 7,000 feet.  Southwest winds are at 20 to 35 mph, decreasing to 15-25 overnight.
The weather stations at Truckee, Incline Village, South Lake Tahoe and Tahoe City are reporting 28 degrees and snowing .
