Gondola construction set to begin at Vail Resort

Construction will begin on a replacement gondola at Vail Village the day after Vail’s closing day, April 15.  The new high speed gondola will hold 10 passengers and feature heated seats and Wi-Fi for the 7.5 minute ride to the top.  The current chair (Vista Bahn Express) takes 9 minutes to get to the top.  Vista Bahn will be disassembled and used as spare parts at Vail and at other Vail Corporation resorts.
If construction goes as expected, the new gondola will be ready for opening day of the 2012-2013 season on November 16.  Vail considers the new gondola a perfect way to celebrate their 50th Anniversary.
There are no plans for major expenditures on new features at any other Vail Resort properties this year.  However, they will be spending money at all of the resorts for basic maintenance.
NorthStar got a new lodge and lift for this season, so perhaps next year some money will flow to Kirkwood to upgrade their aging lifts and facilities.  Won’t someone please throw a coat of paint on the dilapidated Outback Grill?

  1. Vail never stops improving and I'm looking forward to spending my ski vacation there next ski season. And to those who haven't been to avail, here's a virtual tour: http://www.mountainyahoos.com/SkiResorts/Vail.html#VILLAGE
