Tahoe meteor chunks found in a parking lot
The unidentified meteor that burned through the sky over Tahoe on Sunday morning may have been located. Robert Ward, an amateur meteor hunter/collector found two marble sized pieces near a baseball field in the town of Lotus, California.
The pieces will have to be analyzed to determine their authenticity. Authentic pieces would likely be millions of years old and contain amino acids and sugars not found on earth.
NASA Astronomers are continuing to look for more of the meteor. Dr. Petrus Jenniskens of the Ames Research Center is asking anyone who may have taken photos or videos of the falling meteor to send them in so they can get a better idea of the meteor’s trajectory.
