Truckee is a top “mountain town”

Truckee was recently named in the Men’s Journal top “mountain town” list.  A top mountain town is a recreation destination after the snow melts.  Truckee made the list for having 11 lakes within 10 miles.

The Journal recommends staying at the Cedar House Sport Hotel for a “minimalist and meticulously eco” experience.  For a happy hour brew, they say to travel up the hill to the Cottonwood Restaurant to enjoy the view from the outdoor deck.  If you need recreation gear, they mention the Sports Exchange as the place to buy or rent everything from kayaks to fishing gear.

The Cottonwood is my number 2 pick for best Truckee restaurants.  However, it is my favorite summer happy hour bar.  There is nothing like a cold draft and the best burger in town at the Cottonwood outdoor patio.  The Sports Exchange is also my favorite sporting goods store.  They have the best prices, good inventory and a knowledgeable staff.

Men’s Journal is spot on with their assessment of Truckee as a top mountain town.
