Reno River Festival moves to June

The Reno River Festival has a new title sponsor (Subaru) and the event has been move to June 15, 16, & 17.  The organizers hope the June dates (formerly in May) will catch warmer weather so participants and spectators can hang out in bathing suits and flip flops.
The Reno River Festival is three days of primarily water related activities on the Truckee River at Wingfield Park.  There will be amateur and professional boat races with $12,000 in prizes up for grabs.  The festival includes paddling competitions in freestyle, slalom, boatercross and a Stand Up Paddleboard event.
The 2.5 mile Run Amuck fun-run returns this year.  The promoters promise to make the obstacles “greater, harder and wetter” than ever.  This is a team event where participants are encouraged to wear costumes.  The event’s signature 60-foot mud pit will of course be in place.
“Splash Dogs” has been added to the events this year.  Splash Dogs is a nationally recognized dog enthusiast company that organizes and promotes dock jumping events. The Biggest Little Dog Jog takes place on Sunday.  This is a 2 mile fun run for dog-owners and their dogs.  All dogs are welcome at the festival as long as they are leashed and friendly.

This year’s festival should be better than ever.  They estimated 37,000 visitors over the 3 days in 2010.  Warmer weather, food vendors, whitewater and music should make for a fun 3 days.
