Tahoe Cup paddleboard race on Donner Lake

Start of the O'Neil Tahoe Cup race on Donner Lake
The O’Neil Tahoe Cup race for paddleboards got underway this morning with light wind and snowy weather. It was cold before the start, so many participants elected to start without “warming-up” before the race start.

The 5 mile race was essentially an out and back from West Shore to the East Shore and return. There was a light tailwind going down, crosswind near the East Shore, and a headwind coming back.

There were several professional stand up paddle (SUP) board racers in the field. Racers like Jay Wild from Truckee, Kody Kerbox from Hawaii, and Rob Rojas from San Clemente raced hard today. The winning time was 48:10 by Jay Wild.  These 3 racers were locked in a dead heat with 300 yards to go coming off the second to last turn buoys.

The always completive Ken Altman from Citrus Heights, finished 11 overall. Ken is 69 years young.
