Target shooting at Boca Reservoir, Truckee

There is an established shooting area near the Boca Reservoir dam.  The shooting area is free to the public through a partnership with the U.S. Forest Service and the Truckee Sportsman’s Association.

The shooting area is safe, but it lacks amenities.  Bring your own targets and pick-up what you bring.  A key is available (no charge) from the Truckee Ranger Station if you wish to drive in.  You can always walk around the locked gate if you prefer. It's only about 100 yards in from the gate.
For directions to the Boca Reservoir shooting area and others, click on my previous shooting article: Target shooting in North Lake Tahoe.
The following video shows a first time shooter at the Boca Reservoir shooting area.

  1. To ensure that I am on the right track and on the right target, a spotting scope is indeed crucial. The excellent magnification and lens are important and when choosing the right gear, choose only from premium brands. My brother and I are both using the BARSKA Blackhawk and the Vortex Viper HD. Both are stellar products and very consistent in performance. Check out this review site to learn more:

  2. Are you allowed to bring your guns and shoot if you're a neveda resident?
