Lake Tahoe Olympic Committee signs 5 Olympians

There is an effort to bring the Winter Olympics back to Lake Tahoe.  The games were last held in this area in 1960 at Squaw Valley.
The Lake Tahoe Winter Games Exploratory Committee is a joint effort between Nevada and California to submit a bid for the 2022 Winter Olympic Games.  This new joint committee has recently signed five Olympians to promote Lake Tahoe.
The five Olympians are Andy Gabel (speed skater), Bret Hedican (ice hockey), Jonny Moseley (freestyle skier), Tamara McKinney (downhill skier), and Kristi Yamaguchi (figure skater).  McKinney and Moseley both trained at Squaw Valley in their early years.

These five athletes and the rest of the committee members mission, is to promote the Olympic movement throughout Reno-Tahoe by showcasing the region’s ability to be a premier sports destination.
2012 is the year the United States Olympic Committee (USOC) asks for interested cities to submit a bid.  In 2013 the USOC submits one city for the international bid process. In 2015 the international committee will select the host city for 2022.
Three other U.S. cities bidding for the games are Salt Lake City, Denver, and maybe even Bozeman, Montana.
