Alpine World Championships coming to Beaver Creek Ski Resort

The Alpine World Championships are coming to Beaver Creek in 2015. The new women’s downhill course has already been cut and graded. The new course is sited near the existing men’s course that was first used in 1999. The women’s course will have similar terrain and end in the same finish area as the men’s course.

There is no word yet on the name for the new course. The new women’s course will be used in December 2013 for a World Cup downhill and Super G event. For the record, the men's course is called Birds of Prey.

World championships in skiing are major events that occur every other year. Vail/Beaver Creek previously held world championships in 1989 and 1999. The event was held in the U.S. only one other time, and that was at Aspen in 1950.

Beaver Creek will be hosting a World Cup event Nov.30- Dec.2, 2012 on the Birds of Prey course.
