Snowstorms lining up to hit this weekend in the Sierra

The big storm of the season is heading our way now. The National Weather Service (NWS) is tracking 3 storms that will hit this Friday and continue through Sunday. Several feet of snow accumulation is possible.
NWS has posted a “Winter Storm Warning” in the Sierra from 6am Friday to 4am Monday. The warning is for “Heavy snow and winds”. They predict upwards of 5 feet of snow at the upper elevations and 3 feet below 7,000 feet.

This is a dry, cold storm that should produce excellent snow. Daytime highs will be in the low to mid 30’s.
The weather will make driving over the passes this weekend subject to lengthy delays. If you can’t get up here this weekend, the weather should start clearing Monday, with sunshine expected for Christmas Day.
Check with the Sierra Avalanche Center before going into the backcountry.
