Jack London Commemorative Sierra Sled Dog Derby cancelled

The sled dog races scheduled for March 2-3 at Soda Springs have been cancelled due to unfavorable trail conditions. The staging group of mushers for the derby is the Sierra Nevada Dog Drivers (SNDD). SNDD said they had concerns for the canine athletes after assessing the trail conditions and projected weather.
Truckee has a rich history of sled dog racing. The Truckee Lions Club kept sled dog racing alive through 1997, when the races were held at the Truckee-Tahoe Airport.
In 1915 Jack London saw a sled dog race in Truckee. London returned 20 years later to film Call of the Wild in Truckee.
