Big storm to hit Lake Tahoe Tuesday evening

The biggest storm in more than two months is expected to hit Tuesday evening in the Sierra. A winter weather advisory will remain in effect from 10:00pm Tuesday through 10:00pm Wednesday.

The National Weather Service of Reno is predicting a band of "moderate to heavy snow" to fall in the Greater Lake Tahoe cities of South Lake Tahoe, Truckee, and Incline Village.

Snow accumulations may be 8 to 14 inches west of Highway 89 and 3 to 8 inches east of Highway 89. Winds will increase to 15 to 25 mph overnight, with gusts to 100 mph over the passes.

Unsettled weather with a chance of snow flurries will continue through the end of the week.
