Sugar pines are "at-risk" in the Tahoe basin due to a disease called white pine blister rust. The Sugar Pine Foundation is a South Lake Tahoe-based non-profit that is on a mission to replace the trees that have died.
Volunteers are needed at the three community tree planting events scheduled in April.
Community planting days:
April 17, 10:00am to 12pm by the Reno Patagonia Outlet.
April 21, 9:00am to 11:00am on Oberwald Way, Tahoe Donner, Truckee.
April 28, 1:00pm to 3:00pm on Spooner Summit.
The Sugar Pine Foundation will have a booth at the Squaw Valley Earth Day event on April 20.
