Trout season opens this weekend in California

Lower Truckee River
April 27 is opening day for anglers. The season should get off to a good start because of the warmer than usual weather the area has been experiencing. The warmer temperatures have allowed the fish to feed more, giving them more weight since winter and opening day.

The Department of Fish and Wildlife has been stocking streams and rivers during the month of April. Both forks of the Carson River above Markleeville and Hope Valley were stocked in April.

The low snow year will make more rivers and streams more accessible at this time of year. Reduced snow runoff will of course reduce river and stream size for this time of year as well.

For the fish planting schedule, see the Department of Fish and Wildlife's website.
