Squaw Valley will not be a US Team training ground

The United States Ski and Snowboard Association has named Mammoth Mountain as the host for pre-Olympic training in the lead up to Sochi.

Mammoth will be the official training ground for U.S. Freeskiing and U.S. Snowboarding through 2019. The teams will be based at Mammoth's Unbound Terrain Park beginning this November.

David Wise, Halfpipe skiing World Champion says "Mammoth creates such a great environment for learning new tricks in a fun and relaxed atmosphere. It's great to have these training camps with the teams together, it's always a good time with everyone. It's a perfect way to start and end our competition season."

Top Alpine skiers like Ted Ligety and Mikaela Shiffrin have been spring training this month at Mammoth. Mammoth is set to close for the season after Memorial weekend.

Mammoth will be the site of the final Sprint U.S. Snowboarding Grand Prix January 18-19, and will announce the 2014 Olympic Snowboarding Team for halfpipe and the new Olympic event of slopestyle.

  1. It's disappointing Squaw won't be the official training ground for the next several years. I was hoping to get up there and watch some of it. Maybe I'll need to make my way down to Mammoth next Winter now!
