The 37th annual Trans Tahoe Relay swim begins July 20, 2013 at Sand Harbor Beach. The flotilla of 150 team boats, 9 safety boats, and 900 swimmers will leave the beach beginning at 7:30am. The expected finish time is 1:30pm at Skylandia Beach in Tahoe City.
Each 6 person team will have their own boat to escort their swimmers throughout the 10 mile lake crossing. Swimmers will battle wind, waves, altitude and cold water. Wetsuits are not allowed. The race format requires all swimmers to begin with 6 X 30 minute swims, followed by 6 X 15 minute swims, and finishing with 10 minute swims.
The competition is fierce for the top teams. Many spend months training and preparing for this race. Teams are attracted from all over the country. Trans Tahoe has become a premiere open water swimming event.
The race is full for 2013. Registration for next year begins January 1, 2014.
