The American Fire on Deadwood Ridge, 17 miles northeast of Foresthill is still burning out of control. Weather conditions are sending smoke from the 1200 acre fire into Reno and North Lake Tahoe.
The fire started Saturday afternoon. The cause is unknown. The Tahoe National Forest reported Monday night that the fire had crossed the North Fork of the Middle Fork of the American River and was burning in the Last Chance area.
Smokejumpers, air tankers, and helicopters are being used to fight the blaze. No homes or structures are threatened, but the beautiful Western States Trail passes through the fire area.
There is not word on containment from the incident command center. The air quality was "marginal" on Monday in Reno due to smoke. It is unclear how the smoke will effect Reno on Tuesday.
There are no road closures or evacuations at this time.
