An employee from the paddleboard rental company responded to Campo's call for help and located him under about 20 feet of water. Efforts to revive Campo were unsuccessful. He was pronounced deceased at the hospital.
The paddleboard had a foot leash and personal flotation device, but neither was used by the victim. The initial investigation indicates Campo borrowed the paddleboard from someone. He was not the renter of the board. The drowning accident is still under investigation.
