Kayak rescue on Lake Tahoe

Wind warning on Tahoe.
The El Dorado County Sheriff's Office received a citizen's report of multiple kayakers in possible distress on October 4, at 6:11pm. On this day, Lake Tahoe had 2 to 4 foot swells with "very" windy conditions.

A patrol boat was launched from Tahoe Keys and sent to search the area near Valhalla. Two kayakers were found together. One kayak was upright and the other was overturned, with a male lying on top of the overturned kayak. The upright kayaker was attempting to paddle the overturned kayak and passenger back to shore.

The disabled kayaker was in medical distress and had to be lifted into the patrol boat. He was taken to paramedics waiting at the Camp Richardson pier where he was transported to Barton Memorial Hospital and treated for hypothermia.

The CALSTAR helicopter responded to the search area for a missing kayaker who was part of the group. The kayaker was found safe on the shore at Whiskey Cove.
