Bicyclist hit in North Lake Tahoe is critical

James Hulett, age 23 from Boulder Colorado was struck from behind by a car near Carnelian Bay last Friday. The driver, Vincent Araujo, of Kings Beach left the scene after the accident.

Hulett suffered major head trauma after the accident and is being treated at Reno's Renown Regional Medical Center in Reno. According to the Reno-Gazette Journal, the driver, Vincent Araujo, turned himself in to the Placer County Sheriff's Office in Tahoe City about two hours after the accident.

According to the Highway Patrol, Araujo drifted onto the shoulder and struck Hulett from behind. Drugs and alcohol do need appear to be a factor at this time.

Araujo was arrested for felony hit and run driving. If you have information, contact the Truckee CHP office at 530-582-7570 and ask for Officer Roid.

* Update 11/22/13: According to the Sierra Sun, the bicyclist, James Hulett died from his injuries. Hulett was riding westbound Hwy. 28 up Dollar Hill when he was struck from the rear by a car driven by Vincent Araujo. Bail was set at $75,000 dollars and he is being held in custody while an immigration investigation is conducted.
