Kirkwood’s opening day will be Monday, Nov. 25th

Kirkwood last season.
After postponing opening day for three days, Kirkwood has produced enough manmade snow to open with one lift. Solitude chair number 5 is the only chair scheduled to run.

Solitude will open at 9:00am and service two runs on what Kirkwood calls “steep intermediate” terrain. Approximately 15 acres of groomed and skiable terrain will be open on Lower Zachary and Outlaw.

Kirkwood will join Northstar, Boreal, and Heavenly as the only open resorts so far this season. Check here for other opening days
They hoped to get the mountain open on Friday, Nov. 22, but Mother Nature didn’t provide enough snow.  The storm that dumped 10 inches at the base and 18 inches at the summit last week just wasn’t enough. However, cold temperatures the last three days gave Kirkwood time to produce acceptable snow coverage at the base for Monday morning.
The weather is expected to be clear for the next few days. The next weather system is expected to bring a chance of snow on Thursday, Thanksgiving Day.
Kirkwood averages 255 days of sunshine with 2,300 skiable acres on a mountain that tops at 9,800 feet. 15 lifts provide a capacity of 19,205 skiers per hour. The longest run is 2.5 miles.
