Major upgrades planned for Tahoe Donner Cross Country

New Tahoe Donner Cross Country Ski Center.
Tahoe Donner hopes to replace their aging Cross Country Ski Center with an infusion of nearly $6 million in capital improvements.

The original Ski Center was built n the 70's as an equestrian barn. The barn has been expanded and improved multiple times through the years, but it still can't provide the services needed by guests today.

The use of stone, timbers, and wood siding will give the new Ski Center a "mountain lodge" look. The new building will be in nearly the same location at 15275 Alder Creek Road. There will be more room for the rental operations, expanded retail space, add a locker room, more seating, and more parking.

The Ski Center would accommodate equestrian, mountain bikes, and trail head parking during the summer.

The design stage was completed in March of 2013. Public meetings have been ongoing since that time. A revised set of plans have been submitted to the Town of Truckee to begin the final approval process.

The final step in the process will take place Tuesday, March 4 before the Truckee Planning Commission. The meeting is at 6:00pm in the Truckee Town Hall, 10183 Truckee Airport Road.

If the permitting process goes as planned, construction could begin this May. Partial completion would allow for a November opening this year. Final completion would be in 2015.
