Snowboarder dies at Heavenly Lake Tahoe

An 18 year-old snowboarder was found unconscious in the snow on Tuesday, February 4. Wyatt James Colvard was taken down the mountain shortly before noon by ski patrol and delivered to paramedics. Paramedics performed advanced life support, but were unable to revive him.

According to the Douglas County Sheriff's office, Colvard died from internal injuries caused by blunt force trauma.

Colvard was found in the "Upper Nevada Woods" area of Heavenly, which is marked as "expert" terrain. Colvard was wearing a helmet. It is not known if his fatal trauma was caused by the ground/snow or an object.

Colvard's Facebook page says he worked at Northstar.

  1. A grip pad on the snowboard gives you a place to put your back foot temporarily, for times when you need to move a little ways but you haven't bound both of your feet to the board yet. Read more about snowboards.
