Northstar at Tahoe |
One Sacramento news station, KCRA, is reporting the death
of two skiers before the President’s Day weekend. http://tinyurl.com/mmoyjkw
One victim hit a tree while
skiing at Sugar Bowl. The 18 year-old was an employee of Sugar Bowl. The body
was found by a snowshoer on Thursday, February 13.
The second victim hit a tree at
Northstar on Friday, February 14. The 43 year-old man was from Belmont,
California.
No other details were released by the Placer County Sheriff's Department.
I skied Northstar on February
14 and found the conditions quite icy from overnight rain. The off-piste
area was hard, rutted and unskiable.
Update: 2/20/2014
Lindsey Van Why hit a tree on the "Cascades" run at Northstar on Valentine's Day. Why suffered injuries to his head and face. He was pronounced dead at the scene. He was not wearing a helmet.
A fund raising site has been set up to assist the Why family. Robin, Tanner, and Cooper are left without Lindsey.
