U.S. Forest Service fuels management crews expect to
continue prescribed burn operations through the month of May. Expect burns to
be taking place along Highway 89 near the Luther Pass Campground.
Smoke may be visible from Christmas Valley and surrounding
communities in South Lake Tahoe. Burn days and duration are determined by
weather conditions. The Forest Service always seeks to minimize smoke impact.
The purpose of prescribed burns is to reduce the fuels that cause wildfire risk in
the basin.
