California Drought causes Sugar Bowl to Close

Sugar Bowl will close this Sunday.
The latest Lake Tahoe Ski Resort drought casualty is Sugar Bowl. The Donner Summit resort announced Wednesday that Sunday, March 22 will be their final day of the season.

The resort will close due to “deteriorating conditions and no snow in the forecast” Sugar Bowl's snow base is reported as 10 inches at the base and 50 inches at the summit (8,383 feet). Christmas Tree, Lincoln, and Nob Hill are the three lifts running currently.

Several other resorts have closed prematurely: Royal Gorge Cross Country, Tahoe Donner, Donner Ski Ranch, Homewood, and Soda Springs.

Good bets for spring skiing might be Northstar for their abundant man made snow and Mt. Rose for their north facing mountain.
