Officials with the new Aquatic Center have launched an online fundraising campaign to help pay for a warm-water pool. The warm-water pool could be built in conjunction with the new competition pool that already has funding.
The warm-water pool (90 degrees) would have a beach entry, spray features, and 2 lap lanes. The warmer water makes it ideal for swim lessons, senior fitness, and for play. The estimated cost for the pool is $1 million dollars.
The Truckee Aquatic Center Campaign resides on the fundraising website: INDIEGOGO. The goal is to raise $250,000 dollars by May 5, 2015. The Truckee Tahoe Airport District has approved $525,000 dollars for the pool and a charitable fund called KaWyHa Fund has donated nearly $250,000 dollars.
Construction is set to begin mid-April of 2015 on the multimillion dollar pool facility that includes one 25 yard competition pool. This pool will be great for lap swimming and competition, but lacks features that the warm-water pool would have.
If they can’t get the additional funding, the new Aquatic Center will be built with just the one pool. Indoor turf will be installed where the warm-water pool could have gone. $36,750 dollars have been raised so far.
